Photograph depicts a close up of the bottom of a totem pole. It features a killer whale with a human in its mouth. On verso, bottom left corner: 3/4 Haida house project, UBC carving shed 1961. On verso, bottom right corner Takao Tanabe 1961-2009 For other photographs of this pole, see photographs 14, 16, 17 in this series. The totem pole was designed as the interior house post for a Haida longhouse commissioned by the University of British Columbia for display in Totem Park. The rest of the longhouse was built after. The totem pole was relocated to the Museum of Anthropology (MOA) in 1978 and can be viewed there today. For more information see the MOA online collection, object number A50031. |
