Item is an onyx edition of Bill Reid's "The Raven and the First Men" sculpture. It features Raven crouched over a clamshell from which six men are emerging. Inscription on base (right proper): Bill Reid - '86 This is one of Bill Reid's most famous sculptures. The Bill Reid Gallery also houses a small 22k gold edition of this sculpture (2002.1.24). Other editions include the small original boxwood edition and the large yellow cedar sculpture at UBC's MOA. This sculpture was also featured on the $20 bill as a part of the Canadian Journey series. |
