Item is a paper cast depicting a dogfish. Written on lower left: Bill Reid Written on lower right: AP 1/1 '91 This paper casting was done of a door that Bill Reid had carved in 1968. The casting process was as follows: The fibre used in the edition of Dogfish Door Paper Castings is an acid free 100% cotton fibre. PH balanced and sized. It is prepared for the purpose of casting by Kakali Handmade Papers. Once the paper is cast and thoroughly dry, it has a characteristic of rigidty and strength of its own. In order to keep the casting from distorting, and to allow the casting to be secured in some form of framing system, each casting has been mounted on a double lamination of acid free corrugated board, (ordered from Paper Technologies in California). An intermediate layer of eight one inch ribs span the width of the casting and are secured to the paper casting with a PH balanced rice paste of archival quality." From Don Buschlen and Barrie Mowatt. "Bill Reid Gallant Beasts and Monsters: Catalogue of an exhibition held at the Buschlen Mowatt Fine Arts Gallery", p.45. Vancouver, BC: Buschlen Mowatt Publishing Ltd., 1992. |
