Item is a woven basket by Meghann O'Brien. Artist's statement: This basket contains over 33,000 stitches and took over a year to complete. Weaving it has taught me about discipline, motivation, and time. Working with such a slow process I've begun understanding the real rate of growth in the natural world; sitting for hours, days, and weeks on end, I entered into the magical process of creation. With my hands I created a basket I hope my ancestors would be proud of. I wove it to be a miniature version of a large work basket. Although it took so long to make, it feels like it was created in a single exhale of breath. |
